Hold the stakes, Buffy fans, because Buffy is back! We reported back in February that a “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” revival series was in the works over at Hulu. Now, the main cast is beginning to be announced.
Familiar Faces and Fresh Blood Join the Fight!
Variety reports that the revival has added five new series regulars to its cast, which includes Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Kiera Armstrong. This means we’re getting a fantastic mix of original legacy and new talent ready to face the forces of darkness!
New additions include Faly Rakotohavana (“Secret Society of Second Born Royals”), Ava Jean (“Law & Order: SVU”) as Larkin, Daniel di Tomasso (“Witches of East End”), Sarah Bock as Gracie, and Jack Cutmore-Scott (pictured, “Oppenheimer,” “Frasier”) as Mr. Burke.
While exact plot details are being kept tightly under wraps, sources previously hinted that the pilot will primarily focus on a new slayer, played by Ryan Kiera Armstrong. Sarah Michelle Gellar herself is set to return as Buffy, though the specifics of her role in this latest iteration remain a mystery at this point. Will she be a mentor or perhaps something else entirely?
A Legacy of Slaying
The “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” first began as a film in 1992, starring Kristy Swanson in the title role. It was penned by Joss Whedon and directed by Fran Kuzui. Five years later, the beloved television series, with Sarah Michelle Gellar as the iconic Buffy, debuted on The WB. Its final two seasons ran on UPN.
The original series featured a cast that included David Boreanaz, Seth Green, and James Marsters, among others. Boreanaz later went on to star in his spinoff series, “Angel,” also on The WB.
This new series promises to expand on that rich mythology, bringing fresh perspectives and new challenges to the Slayer line. With a blend of new and returning talent, the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” revival will be a must-watch.
