Brace yourself for some seriously spooky vibes, horror fans! IFC and Shudder have just revealed the first teaser trailer for Whistle, the latest chiller from director Corin Hardy, who brought us movies like The Nun. And it is chilling. We see glimpses of gruesome deaths, terror-inducing visions, and more.

It’s written by Owen Egerton, based on his own short story. The film stars Dafne Keen (Logan), Sophie Nélisse (Yellowjackets), Sky Yang (Rebel Moon), and Percy Hynes White (My Old Ass). They are joined by the always awesome Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead).

IFC is on a roll, especially after their recent box office-smashing success with Clown in a Cornfield (which topped their 2024 record set by Late Night With The Devil). So, yeah, we’re predicting Whistle will bring even more box office success!

What’s Whistle All About?

Imagine this: a bunch of high school misfits stumble upon an ancient Aztec Death Whistle. Sounds cool, right? Nope. They learn the hard way that if you blow this thing, the terrifying sound summons death to hunt them down. As the body count rises, these friends must frantically dig into the whistle’s origins, desperately trying to stop the horrific chain of events they’ve unleashed.

A Bit of Scary History

It’s believed that ancient Aztec warriors used these instruments to terrify their enemies during battles and even during rituals, such as human sacrifices. The seriously unsettling shriek they produced sounds like a scream from the depths of hell. Talk about nightmare fuel!

From the Director’s Mouth

Director Corin Hardy states that Whistle is “made with the same heart-on-sleeve, disenfranchised-teen-spirit found in my favorite genre movies that I grew up watching.” He was totally drawn to the mysterious vibe of the “Death Whistle” and how it let him create “a variety of cinematic, imaginative and terrifying deaths.” Sounds like we’re in for some seriously creative kills!

Why Everyone’s So Hyped

Adam Koehler, Director of Acquisitions and Productions, is excited about the movie, saying Corin “created a vicious and bloody treat that will stand tall among the best and scariest horror films in recent box office history.” That’s high praise.

David Gross and Jesse Shapira are producing for No Trace Camping, and Macdara Kelleher for Wild Atlantic Pictures.

In the meantime, if you haven’t seen it, check out Clown in a Cornfield (review), which I called “a bloody good flick” in my spoiler-free review. Be sure to check out my interview with director Eli Craig to learn more about that movie.
