Get ready, horror and cult film fans, because ARROW is dropping a seriously cool lineup this August! From creepy cats to mind-bending anime and a crack-addicted raccoon, there’s something for everyone who loves the weird and wonderful.
August 8: Here Kitty Kitty… and Cult Classics Galore!
The lineup begins claws out on August 8 with Here Kitty Kitty… (UK/US/CA/IRE). As long as there have been scary stories, there’s always been a cat to amp up the tension or just scare you silly! Curl up with your favorite feline and enjoy these hair-raising shockers featuring fearsome (and friendly) furballs. Titles include: Nekromantik, At Midnight I’ll Take Your Soul, and The Gore Gore Girls.
Also launching on August 8 are a bunch of new cult classics:
- Lux Æterna (US/CA): From Gaspar Noé (Irreversible, Enter the Void), this film blurs reality and fiction in an ode to the sacrifices of art. French cinema icons Charlotte Gainsbourg and Béatrice Dalle star as an actress and director making an experimental film about witches, but the production quickly unravels into chaos. Shot fast and mostly improvised, it’s a wild, hypnotic ride.
- Sator (US/CAN): If you like secluded forests and creepy supernatural entities, this one’s for you. A broken family finds themselves observed by Sator, a supernatural being trying to claim them.
- 100 Bloody Acres (US): This horror-comedy is about the Morgan brothers who boost their organic fertilizer business with a secret (and very human) ingredient: blood and bones. They usually rely on car crash victims, but with no fresh bodies, they’re getting desperate!
- Breaking the Surface (US): During a winter dive off the coast of Northern Norway, two sisters’ lives are in danger when a rockfall traps one on the ocean floor. It’s a race against time in the middle of nowhere.
August 15: ARROW-me and Dystopian Delights!
On August 15, send the kids to bed and fire up a season of ARROW-me (US/CA). If you’re looking for sugary-sweet anime, you won’t find it here. This is the other side of anime: tough, nasty, extreme, and definitely not for kids. Filled with bizarre, beautiful images and stellar animation that’s influenced generations, ARROW is bringing some of the best of the “anime your parents didn’t want you to see!” Titles include: Wicked City, Angel Cop, and Goku Midnight Eye.
Also on August 15, ARROW has some dystopian offerings for North American subscribers, including three series and a movie:
- Cyber City Oedo 808 (US/CA): In a futuristic Oedo, three criminals are forced into police work with bomb collars around their necks. (3 episodes, Japanese or English dub)
- Angel Cop (US/CAN): An elite anti-terrorist agent fights threats in Japan, but a mysterious third party complicates things. (6 episodes, English dub)
- Goku Midnight Eye (US/CA): A private detective in futuristic Tokyo finds that getting involved with women always leads to trouble. (2 episodes, Japanese or English dub)
- Wicked City (US/CA): A secret police force, the Black Guard, protects the boundary between the human and demon worlds.
August 15 (Again!): Tim Lucas Selects
August 15 concludes with a trip through the ARROW archives, featuring home video curator Tim Lucas’ Selects (UK/US/CA/IRE). Tim Lucas, the legendary founder of Video Watchdog magazine, author, and audio commentator, shares his picks from ARROW’s vast library. As he puts it, “Whatever you need from Arrow – a jukebox, a roller coaster, or a resource of higher education – it’s here for you, in plenty.” Titles include: Toys Are Not for Children, Season of the Witch, and The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Miss Osbourne.
August 22: Crack, Beavers, and Winter Chaos!
On August 22: Smaller and craftier than Cocaine Bear, ARROW presents Crackcoon (US/CA): A raccoon on crack terrorizes a mountain community. Yes, you read that right.
The lineup concludes August 22 with the frostbitten indie darling of 2024! Hundreds of Beavers (US/CAN): Set in the early 1800s, this wild slapstick comedy follows Jean Kayak, a drunken applejack salesman. Stranded in a surreal winter wonderland, he must become North America’s greatest fur trapper, outwitting hundreds of beavers (all played by actors in full-sized mascot costumes!) to win the hand of a mischievous lover. When he discovers the beavers have a secret society, he must infiltrate their lair and win the day.
Get ready for a truly unique August on ARROW!
