Get ready for some deep-sea terror! Netflix has officially kicked off production on its as-yet-untitled sea creature series, with filming taking place in Newfoundland, Canada, where the show is also set. The news comes along with the first image of the cast from the set.
A Grizzled Fisherman vs. a Mysterious Beast
The series, from Jesse McKeown (who brought us Netflix’s hit series “The Umbrella Academy”), sees Josh Hartnett play a hard-bitten fisherman who suddenly finds himself in a desperate fight to protect his family, his tight-knit community, and their vanishing way of life. Why the sudden struggle? Because a mysterious, terrifying sea creature decides to start terrorizing his remote Newfoundland town!
An All-Star Cast Dives In
Hartnett is joined by an impressive ensemble cast, including: Mackenzie Davis (Terminator: Dark Fate), Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things), Willow Kean (The King Tide), Ruby Stokes (Lockwood & Co.), and Rohan Campbell (Halloween Ends). The cast also includes Kaleb Horn (Chucky), Natasha Henstridge (Species), and Joshua Close (The Exorcism of Emily Rose).
Behind the Scenes: A Powerhouse Team
The six-episode limited series is created by Jesse McKeown, who also serves as showrunner. The series is bringing in some serious directorial talent, with Jamie Childs (The Sandman), Helen Shaver (Vikings), and Stephen Dunn (Queer as Folk) all set to helm episodes. The writing team is equally impressive, featuring Karen Walton (Ginger Snaps), Perry Chafe (Frontier), and Natty Zavitz.
McKeown will also serve as executive producer alongside Hartnett himself. They’re joined by a strong team of executive producers, including Jessica Rhoades (Black Mirror), Louise Sutton (Black Mirror), Chris Hatcher (Shadowhunters), and Sharon Hall (The Expanse). That’s a lot of talent!
Stay Tuned
We will keep you posted as Netflix reveals more details about this exciting new series. In the meantime, you can catch Charlie Heaton in action in season five of “Stranger Things,” premiering on November 26.
