Get ready for one of the most unexpected and exciting collaborations in recent cinema! Acclaimed Romanian director Radu Jude is hard at work on his next feature film. It’s a new take on the classic horror tale of Frankenstein. And get this, MCU favorite Sebastian Stan, who was born in Romania, will lead.

“Frankenstein in Romania”

The film, which is titled Frankenstein in Romania, is shaping up to be a fascinating blend of myth and real-world history. The story is set to combine the legendary Frankenstein monster with a real-life secret CIA prison that existed in Romania.

Jude told The Hollywood Reporter that he envisions Sebastian Stan playing both the roles of Victor Frankenstein and the monster. The story promises to be unlike any other adaptation of Frankenstein we’ve seen.

This isn’t the only Frankenstein project on the horizon, as Guillermo del Toro’s dark reimagining of Frankenstein is also set to premiere at the Venice Film Festival.

A Director on a Roll

Radu Jude has had an incredibly productive 2025. Earlier this year, his comedy-drama Kontinental ’25 won the Silver Bear for best screenplay at the Berlin Film Festival. His latest work, Dracula, a black comedy, is now making its debut at the Locarno Film Festival. The festival has even noted that the film “could shock the sensitivity of some viewers,” which is precisely the kind of vibe Jude has built.

Looking even further ahead, Jude is planning another film, one that will be “a very distant dialogue with The Diary of a Chambermaid.” He revealed that this project will focus on the dramatic issues of immigration and the lives of Romanians working abroad.
