In a surprising turn of events, the Duffer Brothers—the masterminds behind Netflix’s massive hit “Stranger Things”—are making a big move. According to Variety, Matt and Ross Duffer are in advanced talks to leave Netflix and move to Paramount. The new partnership would focus on creating major blockbuster films and TV shows.
This move is a bit of a homecoming, as it would reunite the Duffers with Cindy Holland, who is now the head of streaming at Paramount. Holland was the one who originally greenlit “Stranger Things” back when she was at Netflix.
Don’t Worry, More Stranger Things is Still on the Way
While the Duffers are looking to the future, they’re not done with Netflix yet. Through their production company, Upside Down Pictures, they have numerous projects still in development for the streaming giant.
Before they officially wrap up their time at Netflix, we can still look forward to the final season of Stranger Things, which is set to premiere in November. There are also two new series debuting in 2026: the adventure series The Boroughs and the horror series “Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen.” Then there’s the upcoming animated prequel “Stranger Things: Tales From ’85.” Variety reports that there is also an unannounced live-action “Stranger Things“ spin-off expected to follow after the final season.
A Wild Ride to the Top
It’s been a crazy journey for the Duffer brothers. They had their original “Stranger Things“ pilot script rejected by almost every network before Netflix took a chance on it. When the first season premiered in 2016, it became an instant sensation and one of Netflix’s first actual original hits. The show’s popularity continued to grow from there, with the fourth season becoming Netflix’s most-watched English-language series to date.
So, while the final season of “Stranger Things“ might be ending soon, the Duffer Brothers’ next chapter is just beginning!
