Great news for fans of Stephen King and thrilling mysteries! The hit horror series “The Institute” has been officially renewed for an eight-episode second season by MGM+. And we couldn’t be more thrilled as fans of the series.
A Record-Breaking Hit
The show, which is a massive success for the streaming service, is based on King’s best-selling novel of the same name. The first season, which stars Ben Barnes and Mary-Louise Parker, was a huge success, becoming the most-watched premiere in the history of MGM+.
A Dark Story
“The Institute” follows the story of teen genius Luke Ellis (played by Joe Freeman). A young man who is kidnapped. He wakes up in a mysterious facility called The Institute. It’s a place filled with children who all arrived the same way he did. They all also possess unusual abilities.
Meanwhile, haunted former police officer Tim Jamieson (played by Ben Barnes) has come looking to start a new life. However, peace won’t last for long. His story and Luke’s are destined to collide terrifyingly.
Returning for Season Two
Executive producers Stephen King, Jack Bender, and Benjamin Cavell are all set to return for the second season. They’ve all expressed their excitement about continuing the story and diving deeper into the unsettling world of The Institute.
Simone Miller, Fionn Laird, Hannah Galway, Julian Richings, Robert Joy, and Martin Roach also star along with Freeman.
The series, which features eight-episodes, is directed and executive-produced by Jack Bender. Bender is known for the MGM+ hit series “FROM,” which is returning for its fourth season. Benjamin Cavell (Justified, The Stand) serves as writer and executive producer in a collaboration with MGM+ Studios.
“Set free but hunted, new dangers await the escapees from the Institute and I can’t wait,” said Stephen King.
