Get ready to celebrate a new holiday—one filled with terror and a vengeful undead soldier! Sweetest Day, a new horror film inspired by the lesser-known Midwest holiday, is here to bring a fresh take to the slasher genre. This isn’t your average Valentine’s Day knock-off; this is a full-blown nightmare. And what’s more, it gives us a new, badass, but relatable final girl to cheer for, played by Dorée Seay.
A Vengeful Ghost, a Resilient Survivor
The film’s story centers on Mindy, a resilient survivor played by Seay. Mindy is confronted by a malevolent, undead Confederate soldier who almost took her life before. Now, he’s back, and he’s not alone. It’s up to Mindy to face her past and stop the monster before he claims more victims.
The film’s cast is a horror fan’s dream, featuring genre favorites Catherine Corcoran (Terrifier), Kelly Maroney (Chopping Mall), and Russell Todd (Friday the 13th Part 2). They’re joined by a talented ensemble cast that includes Nate Boyer (Mayans M.C.), Morgana Shaw (Salem), and Andy Davoli (The Sopranos).
From Short Film to Feature-Length Nightmare
Sweetest Day marks the feature directorial debut of Doug Hawley, who adapted the film from his own award-winning 2022 short. Hawley co-wrote the script with Nate Boyer, based on a story by Hawley and Dorée Seay. Bloody-Disgusting claimed the exclusive.
With its unique premise and a cast that knows its horror, Sweetest Day promises to be a gruesome and thrilling addition to the horror genre. Get ready to watch the terror unfold! We’ll let you know as soon as the premiere date is announced. In the meantime, check out the trailer below.
