One of the most anticipated horror movies of the fall is director Ben Leberberg’s Good Boy. It is getting a major upgrade ahead of its theatrical premiere, thanks to overwhelming interest following the trailer’s debut.
The original plan for Good Boy was to have a limited theatrical run from IFC Films. However, after the film’s trailer garnered nearly two million views and generated massive online buzz, the studio decided to change its plans. According to Entertainment Weekly, the film will now receive a wide release in response to the high anticipation and a noticeable spike in Google searches. The most common search? Fans are desperately trying to find out if the canine star survives the film. I’ll admit, I am one of them.
The Story and the Star
The movie follows a dog named Indy, who moves with his human, Todd, to a new family home in the countryside. While Todd is loving their new life, Indy immediately gets bad vibes from the house’s creepy atmosphere. He begins to sense a sinister presence, seeing ghostly tracks and glimpses of a terrifying past. As a dark force starts to take hold of Todd, Indy has to fight to save his best friend. The film builds tension through the unbreakable bond between the two as they face a truly unimaginable terror.
The film’s star, Indy, is a 35-pound pup who has no idea he’s a movie star. He loves fetch, food, and his humans (in that order!). His special talents include finding tennis balls and staring deep into your soul right before dinner. Good Boy is Indy’s first feature film, following his breakout role in the short film of the same name. By all accounts, he’s a very good boy.
The Humans
The film serves as the feature directorial debut for Ben Leonberg, who also co-wrote the script with Alex Cannon. The star of the show is the director’s own real-life canine companion, Indy. Indy is joined by human cast members, including indie horror favorite Larry Fessenden, along with Shane Jensen and Arielle Friedman.
When Can You See It?
While the biggest question on everyone’s mind is whether the dog makes it to the end, you’ll have to head to the theater to find out for yourself. Luckily, you don’t have to wait too long. Good Boy will be released in theaters nationwide from IFC on October 3!
