A chilling new film from Vertical Entertainment is set to arrive just in time for fall. The nail-biting thriller, Dead of Winter, starring Academy Award winner Emma Thompson, opens in theaters this September. And it promises to be a tense, isolated tale of survival where every decision matters.

A Terrifying Night in a Remote Cabin

In Dead of Winter, a grieving loner (played by Emma Thompson) finds herself in a desperate situation after getting caught in a blizzard near a remote Minnesota lake. Lost and without a cell signal, she seeks refuge at a secluded cabin in the woods. But what she finds inside is far worse than the storm outside.

The cabin is a scene of pure terror, where she discovers a young woman (Laurel Marsden) being held captive by a desperate and armed couple (Judy Greer and Marc Menchaca). Soon, the loner realizes that she is this young woman’s only hope for survival. The film masterfully pits her against a sinister couple in a life-or-death game of cat and mouse.

A Stellar Cast and Crew

The film is directed by Brian Kirk and co-written by Nicholas Jacobson-Larson and Dalton Leeb. With its focus on a small cast and an isolated setting, the film promises a claustrophobic and psychological experience. Emma Thompson’s role as a grieving yet resilient hero is a departure from her more well-known work, and her performance is sure to be one of the film’s highlights.

The all-star cast also includes Gaia Wise, Cuan Hosty-Blaney, Paul Hamilton, and Lloyd Hutchinson.

Brace yourself for the chilling film “Dead of Winter,” arriving in theaters on September 26, 2025.
