“Welcome to Tall Pines… we think you’ll be very happy here.” That’s the chilling tagline for Netflix’s new psychological horror-thriller, “Wayward.” A new trailer has been released, offering a deeper look into the mysterious town and its unnerving residents.

Toni Collette’s Menacing Performance

At the center of it all is Evelyn Wade. She is the head of a school for “troubled teens” that promises to “solve the problem of adolescence.” Toni Collette (Hereditary) delivers a truly menacing performance as Evelyn in the trailer. The footage starts with a promotional video for Tall Pines Academy. It shows a haven where teens can benefit from therapeutic methods. However, as the trailer progresses, the sinister reality of the school begins to emerge.

In one particularly chilling moment, Evelyn peers over her imposing glasses and tells a new student being forcibly held back, “I can’t wait for you to meet the new you.”

The Truth Revealed

Mae Martin’s character, Alex, is a police officer who relocates to the small town and begins investigating the academy. As Alex digs deeper, she uncovers Evelyn’s dark involvement in the school’s inner workings. Alex becomes determined to expose the unsettling truths lurking beneath the surface, including the fact that eighteen children have gone missing.

The show’s official synopsis promises a thrilling ride, stating, “Nothing is what it seems in Tall Pines. After an escape attempt from an academy for ‘troubled teens,’ two students join forces with a newly local police officer, unearthing the town’s dark and deeply rooted secrets.”

If you are looking for a deeply unnerving series, “Wayward” is the one. All eight episodes will be available on Netflix starting September 25th.
