Focus Features has announced that Bugonia, the new film from acclaimed director Yorgos Lanthimos, will be released this fall. The trailer has also arrived, teasing an intense, must-see film.
A Wild and Weird Premise
Written by Will Tracy, the film follows two young men who are obsessed with conspiracy theories. They become convinced that a high-powered CEO (Stone) is actually an alien with a mission to destroy Earth. So, in a desperate attempt to save the world, they kidnap her, setting off a wild chain of events.
An Amazing Cast
The film boasts an impressive cast. The film reunites Lanthimos with Oscar-winning actress Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons (Lanthimos’ Kindness of Strangers). Aidan Delbis, Stavros Halkias, and Alicia Silverstone round out the cast. Ed Guiney, Andrew Lowe, Lanthimos, and Stone produce as well as Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen for Square Peg.
A Brilliant Director
Director Yorgos Lanthimos is renowned for his distinctive style and ability to blend dark comedy with psychological drama seamlessly. He gained international recognition with his 2009 film Dogtooth, which earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. He later transitioned to English-language films, directing critically acclaimed movies like The Lobster (2015), The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017), and The Favourite (2018).
Lanthimos’ most recent collaboration with Emma Stone, Poor Things, garnered significant praise and won several Academy Awards, including Best Actress for Stone.
Focus Features will release Bugonia with a special limited engagement on October 24, followed by its wide release on October 31.
