Film legend and seven-time Academy Award winner Rick Baker, whose groundbreaking creature effects have shaped the modern horror landscape, is set to receive the prestigious Vincent Price Award. The award will be presented by Vincent’s daughter, Victoria Price, at the Hollywood Horrorfest. The event will celebrate Baker’s work on unforgettable creations for films like An American Werewolf in London, Michael Jackson’s Thriller, and King Kong (1976). The event will be on Sunday, September 21st, in Los Angeles.

A Legacy of Monsters Immortalized

This award holds special significance, as it connects the two titans of terror. Baker, who famously received his first Academy Award from Price himself, celebrated the synergy between them.

“I’ve made monsters my whole life,” Baker stated. “Vincent Price made monsters immortal. This award connects us in the best possible way.”

The Vincent Price Award itself was created to celebrate Price’s unique artistic and iconic legacy by honoring an artist whose work has achieved equally iconic status in the horror and fantasy genres.

An Intimate Evening with the Legends

The evening will be more than just an awards ceremony. It is also a rare chance for fans to connect with the artists on a personal level. Before the main event, Victoria Price will share unique and personal stories and photos of her father, Vincent Price, and his enduring artistic legacy. Afterward, Baker will join Festival Founder Miles Flanagan for a cozy, “Johnny Carson-style” conversation. They will discuss the inspirations, challenges, and history behind his enduring and influential monster creations. The event will even feature its own house band, The Slaughtered Lambs, adding to the relaxed vibe.

Honoring the Next Generation of Artists

Beyond the celebration, the event serves a noble purpose: it is a fundraiser for the Vincent Price Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to makeup students at East Los Angeles College (ELAC). Jessica L. Hansen of ELAC expressed her gratitude, stating, “The new student scholarship is an incredible opportunity for our students pursuing makeup design. The festival’s dedication to the success of ELAC is a testament to the legacy of Vincent Price.”

This year’s Hollywood Horrorfest weekend runs from September 20th to 21st. In addition to the Baker tribute, it features numerous new horror shorts, features, and events. The festival also announced that the 2025 Boobs and Blood Award recipient is Robert ‘Corpsy’ Rhine, President of Girls and Corpses Magazine.

Previous recipients of the prestigious Vincent Price Award include renowned figures such as John Landis (An American Werewolf in London), Joe Dante (Gremlins), Cassandra “Elvira” Peterson, and Sid Haig (House of 1000 Corpses). Don’t miss this unique opportunity with the genius behind some of the most unforgettable creatures in film history.
