From the gridiron to the silver screen, former NFL player-turned-filmmaker Phillip Buchanon is bringing his new horror flick, Kreaster, to the Phobia Film Festival on September 26, 2025. This short film promises a haunting and mysterious story that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats.

The plot of Kreaster is both chilling and straightforward: an unknown entity causes the entire population of a small town to vanish into thin air. The only person left behind is a lone survivor. A military officer and a civilian paranormal researcher are called in to interview them. The big question is, what happened to everyone, and who—or what—is the survivor?

Buchanon didn’t work alone on this project. He teamed up with director Jacob Cooney, a veteran of indie thrillers like The Folic and Pitching Tents, and the Emmy-winning writer Bill Hanstock, known for his work on sci-fi flicks like Alien Predator. This creative trio promises a well-crafted script with some genuinely scary moments.

The film is produced by David Gere and Chelsea Vale of Shadow Vale Productions, adding another layer of indie film expertise to the project. The Phobia Film Festival, located in Central Missouri, is an excellent venue for this kind of creative, independent storytelling.

If you’re in the area and a fan of suspenseful, character-driven horror, you won’t want to miss Kreaster this fall. It’s an exciting project from a unique team and could be a highlight of the festival.
