A24 is diving headfirst into classic horror. Not only is the studio bringing Friday the 13th fans the upcoming series “Crystal Lake,” it’s also reportedly boarding the Texas Chain Saw Massacre franchise. Deadline is reporting that A24 is fighting to obtain the franchise film and series rights.
“Apparently, the deal hasn’t closed yet, but A24 has pole position,” Deadline reports. “Another source close to the action tells us that this is all premature, but it’s clear that the genre label behind Hereditary isn’t letting this one go.”
The outlet also mentions that Roy Lee has expressed interest in making another Texas Chain Saw Massacre film for Netflix.
A24 isn’t the only one interested. Other interested parties in recent months include Jordan Peele, Osgood Perkins, and Taylor Sheridan.
Three years ago, Netflix premiered Texas Chainsaw Massacre, a “legacy sequel” to Tobe Hooper’s original 1974 horror classic.
On another note, the real killer who inspired the iconic horror character, Ed Gein, is the subject of the new season of Ryan Murphy’s “Monster” series, “Monster: The Ed Gein Story“. That’s not all. A brand new documentary about the franchise is also headed your way.
