Netflix is about to release a new installment of its crime anthology series, “Monster.” This season, it’s all about one of America’s most twisted and infamous serial killers, Ed Gein.
This is the third season of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s show. It stars the one and only Charlie Hunnam in what looks to be a completely transformative and terrifying role as the title killer. Netflix has dropped the premiere date for “Monster: The Ed Gein Story” and the teaser trailer. Now, the full trailer has arrived, and it’s a bit NSFW as the star gets naked in it before slipping into a body suit.
The series goes back to the frozen fields of 1950s Wisconsin. A seemingly friendly but deeply disturbed recluse named Ed Gein lives on a decaying farm. Driven by isolation and a genuinely creepy obsession with his mother, Gein’s crimes were a lot more gruesome than just murder. He was also a grave robber who used human remains to create some seriously macabre household items, from lampshades to a body suit.
Ed Gein’s shocking story isn’t just a piece of true crime history. It serves as the inspiration for some of modern horror’s most iconic villains. Think Norman Bates from Psycho, Leatherface from The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and Buffalo Bill from The Silence of the Lambs. This series promises to show us where all that horror began.
If you’re used to seeing Charlie Hunnam as the rugged biker Jax Teller from “Sons of Anarchy,” prepare to be totally freaked out. He’s almost unrecognizable as the creepy, 1950s-era Gein. If you’re a fan of Hunnam, we have more good news: he is currently in talks to return for the fourth season, which will tell the story of Lizzie Borden.
The cast is stacked with other talented stars, including the legendary Laurie Metcalf as Gein’s deeply disturbing mother, Augusta. Plus, we’ve got Tom Hollander playing none other than Alfred Hitchcock himself, along with Olivia Williams as Hitchcock’s wife, Alma.
With such a talented cast and Ryan Murphy’s signature twisted storytelling, “Monster: The Ed Gein Story” is a must-watch for anyone who loves true crime and psychological thrillers.
