The new Anaconda movie starring comedy legends Paul Rudd and Jack Black is slithering into theaters on Christmas Day. And to make things even more bizarre, this isn’t a straight-up horror flick; it’s a meta-comedy about two guys trying to remake the original.

Finally, after being shrouded in secrecy, PEOPLE has released the very first images from the set. According to Jack Black, the film is “an exciting mix of comedy and horror.” He adds, “Buckle up for the thrill ride of the season — Anaconda is coming!”

The movie’s plot is a hilarious twist on the classic monster movie. We follow best friends Doug and Griff, whose lifelong dream is to remake their favorite film, the 1997 masterpiece Anaconda. Everything seems to be going according to their comically chaotic plan until a real, giant anaconda shows up. Suddenly, the movie they’re dying to make might just get them killed for real.

Helmed by Tom Gormican (The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent), the film features a fantastic cast, including Thandiwe Newton, Steve Zahn, Selton Mello, Ione Skye, and Daniela Melchior.

This new installment is part of a long-running franchise that started with the 1997 original, starring Jennifer Lopez and Ice Cube. That film was a huge success, spawning three sequels and even a hilarious crossover with the Lake Placid franchise in 2015.  Watch the original now on Prime Video or Netflix

Get ready for some holiday terror when Anaconda swims into theaters on December 25, 2025.
