Just when you thought the “Poohniverse” couldn’t get any wilder, they’re bringing in the big guns. On the heels of the Winnie-the-Pooh, Bambi, and Peter Pan movies, the next twisted childhood classic on the list is Pinocchio: Unstrung.
And the big news? Horror legend Robert Englund, the man who made Freddy Krueger a household name, will be voicing none other than Jiminy Cricket. He’s switching out his glove for wings. The folks behind the “Poohniverse” just dropped a couple of images, and if you think this version of Jiminy looks a little like a certain dream demon, that’s definitely not a coincidence.
Director Rhys Frake-Waterfield says this movie will be his best to date. With a significantly bigger budget than Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2, he’s aiming to make this the definitive horror version of Pinocchio and to ruin your childhood memories. He’s relying on practical effects created by FX legend Todd Masters.
We’ll also get to see Richard Brake from 3 from Hell as the puppet master Geppetto. Cameron Bell, Jessica Balmer, Jack Art Gray, and Peter De Souza-Feighoney also star in Pinocchio: Unstrung.
Get ready for this terrifying puppet to come to life sometime next year, alongside his new deadly friends. The various films in this “Twisted Childhood Universe,” including the upcoming sequel Winnie-the-Pooh 3, and Pinocchio, are all building toward the ultimate monster mash-up: Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble.
