Horror fans, get ready to camp out, because the Friday the 13th universe is exploding! We have a significant update: “Crystal Lake” might introduce the most physically intimidating Jason Voorhees yet.

The infamous lake is about to get a whole lot darker. A24 is hard at work developing the prequel series, “Crystal Lake,” which will delve deep into the origins of the masked killer. Since the series has secured the franchise rights for streaming, it can explore everything under the Friday the 13th umbrella.

The series will primarily focus on Pamela Voorhees. She was the original killer after her son’s tragic death. Taking on this complex, iconic role is the fantastic Linda Cardellini.

Adding to the chilling setup, Callum Vinson will play the young Jason. The cast is filling out quickly with names like Nick Cordileone, Joy Suprano, Danielle Kotch, and Phoenix Parnevik. Notably, some of these roles bear names reminiscent of key figures from the original 1980 film. Nick Cordileone will play Ralph, potentially the return of the infamous, curse-rambling “Crazy Ralph.” Danielle Kotch (as Claudette) and Phoenix Parnevik (as Barry) share names with the first two victims of Pamela’s original killing spree.

Creator Brad Caleb Kane is helming the series and has support from executive producer Mike Flanagan—a proper horror pedigree!

While A24 handles the prequel series, Horror Inc. is confirming that a new sequel movie and game are “at the top of its list.”

And now for the exciting casting news. WWE Superstar Adam Scherr (aka Braun Strowman) has confirmed he is in talks to take on the iconic role of the infamous hockey-masked killer! He revealed the news during an interview about his role in the upcoming movie Deathgasm 2: Goremageddon.

When discussing the role, he told Collider: “I might be the next Voorhees.” Confirming that there are already “some talks” happening between his agency and the studio. Scherr sounds absolutely ready to join the horror pantheon. He’s even said he’d “gladly shave this beard off to play that character.”

Scherr is a formidable presence, standing at a massive 6’8″ and weighing 344 lbs. With Jason needing to be a towering force on screen, Scherr fits the bill. He will be joining the legacy of actors like Kane Hodder and Derek Mears, who both played the killer.
