One movie that you should be adding to your watch list is the horror/thriller Beast of War. It throws us into the chaos of World War II. The film follows a warship carrying Australian soldiers as they train for their mission. But a sudden, brutal attack by Japanese fighter planes leaves the ship sinking and a handful of survivors stranded on a makeshift raft, floating in a sea of steel, fire, and blood.

Their battle with the enemy is just beginning, but a far deadlier one is about to start. Drawn by the smell of blood in the water, an enormous great white shark begins to hunt them, turning their desperate attempt at survival into a terrifying game of cat and mouse.

I jumped at the chance to talk with Beast of War’s writer-director Kiah Roache-Turner, the same director behind the movies Sting and Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead, which I saw when they were released.

Turner’s enthusiasm for the film is infectious. Seeing a filmmaker who is that passionate about his movie is impressive. He had a story he really wanted to tell and did a fantastic job with it. I’m totally here for it!

After we talked, it really stood out to me just how passionate he is about doing a movie right, and he did. I also respect him for his determination to deliver a realistic-looking shark. I mean, having a bad shark can ruin a movie. But he certainly delivers with a beast and a story that feels realistic.

Turner and I had an interesting conversation about Beast of War, which you can watch below. I highly recommend adding the film to your must-see list! It arrives in theaters and on VOD on October 10.
