Get ready to shout “Abe-normal!” because FX has officially ordered a pilot for the highly anticipated comedy series, “Very Young Frankenstein,” and the talent involved is legendary! This series is inspired by the 1974 masterpiece Young Frankenstein, co-written and directed by the great Mel Brooks.
This pilot, ordered by FX, has a serious pedigree from the folks behind the camera. Stefani Robinson (What We Do in the Shadows) penned the script. Taika Waititi, also from “What We Do in the Shadows,” will direct and executive produce the pilot.
And for true fans of the original, here’s the best news: Mel Brooks himself is executive producing! That instantly gives this project a massive seal of approval and ensures it honors the spirit of the classic film.
Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover, FX’s Baskets) is set to play Dr. Frankenstein (or should we say, “Fronk-en-steen”?). He’s joined by Dolly Wells, Spencer House, Nikki Crawford, and Kumail Nanjiani. And Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride) is slated to play the President of the United States!
The original 1974 film, starring Gene Wilder, Cloris Leachman, Marty Feldman, and Madeline Kahn, is widely regarded as one of the funniest movies ever made. With this new cast and creative team, “Very Young Frankenstein” has all the ingredients to become a modern comedic classic as well. And if the series does get a greenlight, you’ll be able to watch it on FX.
