Sunrise Films and Vertigo Releasing have announced the digital release of Samuel Clemens’ gripping feature film debut, The Drowned. Formerly known as The Waterhouse, the film premiered to acclaim at London’s FrightFest Halloween event and is now set to deliver a dark, water-logged mystery this October. Woven with subtle references to Greek mythology, this tense thriller promises to keep you guessing until the final frame.
The Drowned throws viewers into a desperate scenario. Three thieves, fresh from the successful theft of a priceless painting, arrive at a remote seaside safe house. Their brief moment of relief is shattered by creeping dread: their fourth accomplice is missing.
Did one of the team betray their partner to keep a larger share? Or is a more sinister presence—one hinted at by the film’s mythological undertones—lurking in the deep, dark waters below, responsible for her sudden and terrifying disappearance? The remote setting and mounting paranoia ensure a claustrophobic and unpredictable ride.
The film boasts a strong cast featuring actors known for their work in major franchises and acclaimed television. The ensemble includes Alan Calton (Mission: Impossible The Final Reckoning), Lara Lemon (War Of The Worlds: The Attack), and Lily Catalifo (Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny).
They are joined by Dominic Vulliamy (BBC One’s Rules Of The Game), Corrinne Wicks, Michelangelo Fortuzzi, and Sandrine Salyères.
The Drowned was produced by Agam Jain, George Clemens, and Fernando Ruiz for Take The Shot Films, alongside James Kermack and Julien Loeffler for Featuristic Films. Raven Banner Entertainment is handling worldwide sales and distribution.
HorrorFuel’s Joseph Perry described the film as having “mesmerizing sound design, captivating visuals, and an eerie, enigmatic tone,” in his review.
The mystery is scheduled for a wide digital release this October, just in time for the spooky season. It will be released in the UK on October 6, in the US on October 7, and in Australia on October 8, 2025.
