Picture this: you’re enjoying a relaxing trip aboard a gorgeous luxury super yacht. Everything is great… until you witness a murder. That’s the terrifying situation facing Keira Knightley in the new psychological thriller, The Woman in Cabin 10.
Based on the 2016 bestselling novel by Ruth Ware, the film is pure high-seas panic. Knightley plays a journalist on assignment who is certain she saw a body tossed overboard one night. However, when she reports the crime, the crew insists all passengers are accounted for. Despite being gaslit by everyone on board, she decides to keep looking for the truth, putting her own life in severe jeopardy.
Even though the source material came out nearly a decade ago, author Ruth Ware believes the premise remains incredibly relevant. She told Tudum that the “fear of not being believed is perennial, unfortunately.”
Ware explains that at its heart, The Woman in Cabin 10 is about a woman who experiences something traumatic, reports it truthfully, and is then immediately dismissed. As she puts it, “Too many people know what that feels like, and I think we want vindication for ourselves as much as [the main character] Lo.”
The film is directed by Simon Stone (The Dig) and features a star-studded ensemble cast ready to keep you guessing about who to trust. Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso), Guy Pearce (L.A. Confidential), David Morrissey (“The Walking Dead”), and Daniel Ings (The Gentlemen) star.
