Netflix has given a straight-to-series order to an adaptation of Charles Burns’ revered graphic novel “Black Hole,” a body-horror-tinged coming-of-age story.

Developing the project and directing is Jane Schoenbrun. Known for the recent A24 film I Saw the TV Glow, which premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. Schoenbrun will co-produce the series with New Regency and Netflix.

The story centers on the seemingly idyllic small town of Roosevelt, haunted by a terrifying myth: a sexually transmitted disease known as “the bug.” This virus doesn’t just infect; it literally transforms those who contract it too young into grotesque “monsters.”

The myth becomes a horrifying reality for high school senior Chris after a reckless night. She is infected and physically changing. She is cast out to live in the surrounding woods with the other infected teens. But a chilling, new threat emerges among the outcasts: a serial killer is hunting them one by one.

We will keep you posted as more details come to light. In the meantime, you can get your copy of the book now from Amazon.
