Kelly Marie Tran and genre king David Dastmalchian are teaming up for the new psychological thriller, Kodak Super XX, which marks the feature directorial debut of Auden Bui (The Lost City of Tomorrow), Deadline reports.
The project is already generating buzz as the inaugural feature from actor Ron Perlman’s newly launched media studio, ASYLM Studios.
Described as a psychological neo-noir film, Kodak Super XX centers on a darkroom developer at a boutique photo lab who takes a paranoid turn after becoming involved with a mysterious stranger with a dark secret (according to IMDb). It’s a “haunting tale about loneliness, art, and the moment creation and obsession blur into one.”
Director Auden Bui expressed his excitement for the partnership: “I’m thrilled that ASYLM Studios selected Kodak Super-XX as its debut feature. The studio represents a return to filmmaking in its purest form—a focus on craft, story, and most importantly, the people who make it happen.”
The film was written by Tony Rettenmaier (They Cloned Tyrone). He also produces along with Juel Taylor, Josh Feldman, and Sean King O’Grady for Death Ground Films. Dastmalchian and Jen Iacobino also produce for Good Fiend.
Kelly Marie Tran recently starred in Hulu’s Control Freak, multiple Star Wars films, and more. David Dastmalchian has become a true staple in the horror genre. and has recently appeared in Rosario, The Life of Chuck, and “Dexter: Resurrection.” Let’s not forget about Late Night with the Devil. Ron Perlman and Willie Morris will executive produce for ASYLM Studios, with Feras Majid Shammami for Robinwood7 also serving as executive producer.
