There are many good reasons horror fans love Spooky Season. But the flood of horror movies tops the list. There’s one film that should be on your “must-see” list, and it’s a Tubi Original. I’m talking about the controversial film Match.
The film isn’t for lightweights, though it’s absolutely brutal. In fact, the Daily Mail called it “repulsive,” due to scenes like a man having a rat trap snapped onto his penis. It’s got gore, incest, and some seriously stomach-churning scenes.
Variety quotes Director Danishka Esterhazy as saying, ” We knew, and our whole team knew, that it was a very dark and challenging story, and we really leaned into it. We pushed ourselves every day to tell a story that didn’t hold back and didn’t pull any punches.”Esterhazy notes that the viral reactions, often calling the film ” he most disgusting thing I’ve ever seen, “usually end with,” and I loved it!”
The film, written by brothers Jon and Al Kaplan, uses outrageous violence to create catharsis through squirms and nervous laughter. The plot centers on Paola. Her mundane experience with dating apps turns into a nightmare once she arrives at Henry’s house. It soon becomes a literal house of horrors.
Two years ago, the Kaplan brothers also brought us the horror film Lowlifes, which we called “one of the best horror films of the year.” It too is a Tubi Original.
Adam Lewinson, Tubi’s chief content officer, notes that the “dating horror” concept made Match a perfect fit for the platform. For anyone who has used a dating app, he says, this film shows dating horror “to the extreme.” The film’s viral success also boosts Tubi’s already massive catalog of over a thousand horror and cult films.
