Focus Features has acquired U.S. distribution rights for the movie Obsession, the electrifying horror debut from writer/director Curry Barker. Hailed out of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) as “provocative and wildly entertaining,” the film is slated to arrive this spring.
Since its buzz-filled world premiere in the midnight section at TIFF, Obsession has continued its winning streak with multiple sold-out screenings at Fantastic Fest. It went on to win the People’s Choice Award at Spain’s renowned Sitges Film Festival.
The film dives into dark, twisted wish fulfillment, blending romantic desperation with supernatural horror:
In the film, after breaking the mysterious “One Wish Willow” in a desperate attempt to win his crush’s heart, a hopeless romantic finds himself getting precisely what he asked for. However, he soon discovers that some desires come at a dark, sinister price, unleashing consequences far worse than unrequited love.
The cast includes Michael Johnston, Inde Navarrette, Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless, and Andy Richter.
Producers include James Harris (Teashop Productions), Haley Nicole Johnson (Under the Shell), and Christian Mercuri from Capstone Pictures.
Focus Features’ promising horror film, Obsession, will open in theaters on May 15, 2026. Looking ahead to 2026, Focus is set to release Robert Eggers’ highly anticipated film Werwulf on Christmas Day.
