The mayhem is officially returning! Warner Bros. is resurrecting the beloved Gremlins franchise, confirming a new installment—likely titled Gremlins 3.

David Zaslav, the CEO and president of Warner Bros. Discovery, during a recent investor call. The announcement confirms that the studio is prioritizing the return of this classic adventure-horror property.

The new Gremlins film is bringing back the legendary creative forces that launched the franchise decades ago. The original film’s executive producer, Steven Spielberg, is returning in the same capacity. Chris Columbus, who wrote the screenplay for the 1984 original, is set to direct and produce this new feature. The creative team also includes Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, who will co-write the screenplay. Producing are Kristie Macosko Krieger, Holly Bario for Amblin Entertainment, 26th Street Pictures’ Michael Barnathan, and Mark Radcliffe.

While no other details, including plot and cast, have been announced, with the creative team returning, it’s bound to be amazing.

The original 1984 film, directed by Joe Dante and written by Chris Columbus, was a landmark moment for cinema. This horror-comedy followed a young man named Billy who received an adorable, furry creature known as a Mogwai as a pet. The three critical rules—never expose it to bright light, never get it wet, and never feed it after midnight—are, of course, broken. This leads the Mogwai to spawn its mischievous, destructive offspring, the Gremlins, who proceed to wreak havoc on the small town during Christmas.

The first Gremlins was a colossal box office success, grossing $212 million worldwide and famously driving the creation of the PG-13 movie rating. While the 1990 sequel, Gremlins 2: The New Batch, was less successful at the box office with $41 million, it has since become a treasured cult classic known for its chaotic, self-aware humor.

With the original architects returning, Gremlins 3 aims to recapture the terrifying, yet fun, spirit of the iconic franchise for a new generation. Get ready for more furry mayhem when Gremlins 3 opens in theaters in November of 2027.
