After years of rumors and anticipation, we will soon see the return of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer!” A new report from Screen Rant indicates the series is set to land on Hulu in 2026!
The series is a sequel to the original. It also reveals a new generation of slaying. It is bringing back beloved icon Sarah Michelle Gellar, who will officially reprise her role as Buffy Summers. She won’t just have a cameo; she is returning in a recurring capacity! Gellar is also executive producing.
The torch, however, passes to a new young Slayer, Nova, played by Ryan Kiera Armstrong (Star Wars: Skeleton Crew). The show will focus on Nova, an introverted high-school student thrust into her destiny as the Slayer.

This highly anticipated pilot episode has serious star power behind the camera. Oscar-winner Chloé Zhao (Nomadland) is directing That’s not all. “Poker Face” and “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” writers Nora and Lilla Zuckerman penned the script and join Gellar and Zhao as executive producers.
Produced by 20th Television and Searchlight TV, the pilot recently wrapped filming in Los Angeles, putting it on a fast track for its reported 2026 debut!
The massive ensemble cast also includes Faly Rakotohavana, Ava Jean, Sarah Bock, Daniel Di Tomasso, Jack Cutmore-Scott, Kingston Vernes, and more.
The original “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” series ran from 1997 to 2001. It was a series adaptation of the hit 1992 movie of the same name, starring Kristy Swanson as the first Buffy. Donald Sutherland played her guide, and Luke Perry played Pike, her love interest.
While Hulu has yet to confirm an official 2026 premiere, it seems inevitable since filming for season one has already wrapped in LA. And its stars are already teasing and doing PR. However, they’re still keeping most details quiet.
