If you love psychological thrillers that keep you guessing until the final moment, your autumn viewing just got a significant upgrade! Prime Video has premiered “Lazarus,” the highly anticipated new series. This show is the latest project from the brilliant minds of best-selling author Harlan Coben and BAFTA-winning screenwriter Danny Brocklehurst, the duo responsible for smash-hit adaptations like The Stranger and Fool Me Once.
At the heart of this intense horror thriller is Laz (Sam Claflin), a forensic psychologist. Laz reluctantly returns to his childhood home following the death of his estranged father, Dr. Lazarus (Bill Nighy). As Laz grapples with his father’s passing, he finds himself immediately pulled into a series of cold-case murders that terrifyingly echo the unsolved killing of his own sister 25 years earlier. Laz must confront his long-buried personal trauma while simultaneously trying to solve a terrifying, immediate mystery.
The casting for “Lazarus” is a significant draw, promising powerful emotional performances alongside the thrilling plot. Sam Claflin (Daisy Jones & The Six, Me Before You) not only stars as the conflicted protagonist, Laz, but also serves as an executive producer. The iconic Bill Nighy anchors the show’s emotional core as Dr. Lazarus, the deceased father whose secrets fuel the investigation. Alexandra Roach (Killing Eve, Nightsleeper) rounds out the main cast as Jenna, Laz’s daughter, who is also forced to confront her own past as the strange and terrifying events unfold around her family.
Harlan Coben promises a story that digs deep into human connection. He described the series as a story of “loss, redemption, and the eternal bond between a parent and a child.” Danny Brocklehurst echoed this sentiment, assuring fans that Lazarus is a “psychological thriller with an emotional spine.” He guarantees the series delivers its trademark wit, warmth, and, most importantly, “twists galore.”
