We’ve got good news for fans of the Alien franchise. FX has officially renewed the hit sci-fi horror series “Alien: Earth“ for a second season. The news comes alongside an expanded overall deal between series creator Noah Hawley and FX/Disney Entertainment Television, cementing his long-term partnership with the studio.
“Alien: Earth” serves as a television extension of the legendary film franchise, which premiered on FX in August to strong critical and audience reviews. So, it’s no surprise it’s getting a new season. Production on Season 2 is scheduled to begin in London in 2026.
Hawley, the creative force behind “Alien: Earth“ and the acclaimed anthology series “Fargo,” has signed a significant new overall deal with FX and Disney Entertainment Television. Variety reports the deal is valued in the nine-figure range. This will allow him to develop new projects across all of Disney Entertainment TV, including ABC and Hulu Originals.
FX Chairman John Landgraf expressed his enthusiasm: “It has been our great privilege to work with Noah for more than a decade on some of FX’s best and biggest shows, and we are thrilled to extend our partnership well into the future. Noah never stops surprising us with truly original stories… We can’t wait to get to work on the next season of ‘Alien: Earth,’ as well as some equally exciting future projects in advanced development.”
Hawley echoed the sentiment, praising his partners: “I’m thrilled that this expanded deal opens the door to new opportunities across all of Disney Entertainment Television. FX has always supported bold, character-driven storytelling… I’m grateful to continue exploring the world of ‘Alien: Earth’ alongside our partners, cast, and crew as we begin the next chapter.”
“Alien: Earth“ is set two years before the events of Ridley Scott’s original 1979 film. The first season introduced a world where five powerful corporations control Earth and the colonized Solar System. This sets the stage for a dramatic corporate and biological conflict.
The official logline for Season 1 describes the core conflict: “When a mysterious space vessel crash-lands on Earth, a young woman (Sydney Chandler) and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet’s greatest threat.” The first season ended with the Hybrid children, led by Sydney Chandler’s character Wendy, seizing control of the Prodigy island facility, setting up a major conflict with the encroaching Weyland-Yutani Corporation for Season 2.
The show features a large ensemble cast, including Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther, Timothy Olyphant, and Essie Davis. Samuel Blenkin, Babou Ceesay, David Rysdahl, and Adrian Edmondson round out the cast.
Hawley serves as the creator and executive producer. He is joined by executive producers Ridley Scott, David W. Zucker, Clayton Krueger, Emilia Serrano, Bob DeLaurentis, Peter Calloway, Monica Macer, John Campisi, and Simon Emanuel. FX Productions produces the series.
Fans can watch the acclaimed first season of “Alien: Earth“ now on Hulu and Disney+. Here’s a look back at the trailer.
