Great news for fans of vehicular mayhem! Peacock has officially renewed the hit action-comedy series “Twisted Metalfor a highly anticipated Season 3, Variety has confirmed. The renewal follows the second season’s massively successful run, cementing the show’s status as a must-watch original for the streaming service.

The second season of the series, which debuted in July, racked up 993 million minutes viewed to date. According to NBCUniversal, this viewership makes “Twisted Metal” the platform’s second biggest returning original scripted season.

While the series is roaring back for more, there will be a shift in the driver’s seat. Michael Jonathan Smith, who co-created and steered the series as showrunner for the first two seasons, will be stepping away from the project. Taking the reins for Season 3 will be David Reed, as showrunner and executive producer. Reed brings a stellar resume, having recently worked on the hit Amazon series “The Boys.”

Co-creators Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick will remain heavily involved, continuing to serve as executive producers alongside Reed.

The series, based on the PlayStation game franchise, stars Anthony Mackie, Stephanie Beatriz, Joe Seanoa, and Will Arnett (the voice of Sweet Tooth).

Season 2 ramped up by finally bringing the core characters into the deadly competition fans know and love.

In season two, John (Mackie) and Quiet (Beatriz) find themselves entering the deadly Twisted Metal tournament, a sinister demolition derby hosted by a mysterious man known as Calypso (Anthony Carrigan). As they try to survive dangerous new foes and familiar faces alike, things get complicated for John when he reunites with his long-lost sister, the vigilante Dollface (Tiana Okoye).

We had the pleasure of sitting down with “Teisted Metal” stars Mike Mitchell, who stars as Stu, and Michael J. Shaw (Axel) during season two. Be sure to check them out.

With the tournament finally underway and a talented new showrunner on board, fans can look forward to even more adrenaline-fueled chaos when Season 3 arrives!
