Following critical acclaim, Focus Features’ Bugonia, directed by five-time Oscar nominee Yorgos Lanthimos, is coming home this holiday season.

Lanthimos delivers a premise that sounds like a fever dream. The director, renowned for his distinctive style, blends dark comedy and deep weirdness, pushing boundaries even further with Bugonia.

Written by Will Tracy, the film follows two young men absolutely obsessed with conspiracy theories. Paranoia reaches a peak when they become convinced that a CEO is an alien with a mission: to eradicate Earth. Their solution to saving the world is to kidnap her. This sets off a wild chain of events. Lanthimos’s signature psychological drama combines with pitch-black comedy and out-of-this-world plot twists.

The cast features a stacked lineup of talent, including many familiar faces from the Lanthimos universe. It includes Emma Stone leading the charge as the CEO, reuniting with the director after their Oscar-winning collaboration on Poor Things and their earlier work on The Favourite.

Stone is joined by Lanthimos veteran Jesse Plemons (The Kindness of Strangers), Aidan Delbis, Stavros Halkias, and the iconic Alicia Silverstone.

Behind the scenes, the production team is equally impressive, featuring Lanthimos and Stone as producers, along with horror master Ari Aster and Square Peg’s Lars Knudsen.

Bugonia is hailed as Lanthimos’s most compelling film yet, delivering a sharp, thrilling, and satirical edge that solidifies his reputation as a unique cinematic visionary. And the best part the film will be available on digital platforms starting November 25, 2025. The 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD physical release is scheduled for December 23, 2025, from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.
