Official synopsis

American Sasquatch: Man, Myth, or Monster takes audiences on a groundbreaking investigation into one of the world’s greatest mysteries. Created by former police detective and best-selling author of the Missing 411 series, Dave Paulides, the film combines cutting-edge science with gripping storytelling — from quantum physics and advanced DNA analysis to the insights of PhD researchers and respected institutions. With startling evidence that blurs the line between folklore and reality, viewers are invited to confront compelling facts that may forever change how we see the legendary hairy biped.

Review

Director Gabe Torres’ American Sasquatch: Man, Myth, or Monster is a quality Bigfoot documentary that may not sway those on either side of the “Is it real or not?” arguments to switch teams, but it does present its elements on a rather even keel overall.

For example, David Paulides — author of the Missing 411 series — debunks a supposed accidental Sasquatch sighting caught on film through higher quality IMAX footage. On the other hand, there is plenty of focus on whether the fabled cryptid might be a portal-hopping paranormal creature. So along with some thought-provoking material, there’s a serving of what some consider woo factor.

One of the elements presented that I found most interesting is one interview subject’s study of what he considers an actual recorded conversation between a male and a female Bigfoot. Conversations with Indigenous people are also highly intriguing as they add a spiritual side to matters. The talking heads — some familiar from other Bigfoot documentaries, some newer faces — are all interesting.

American Sasquatch: Man, Myth, or Monster isn’t about trying to find Bigfoot. Rather, it is an engaging look at differing theories about what the creature might be, why no hard evidence of its existence has been presented yet, and its place in North American history. Recommended, especially for viewers already interested in Sasquatch and those who enjoy high strangeness in general.

American Sasquatch: Man, Myth, or Monster from Lab 9 Films is available digitally from December 1, 2025.
