Back in early August, we reported that Gerard Butler will be returning for Greenland 2: Migration, the sequel to the 2020 action-survival film. Lionsgate announced today that a release date for early 2026 has been set, along with a new clip that shows Butler’s John Garrity having a close call.
In the original, Butler starred as a father fighting to save his family. We watched as people around the world desperately tried to find safety as a world-ending comet headed toward Earth. Luckily, the family was able to reach a bunker before much of humanity perished.
The sequel continues to follow the Garrity family (Butler, Morena Baccarin, and Roman Griffin Davis). Now, they must traverse a shattered world in search of a new home. However, the world is a much different place. They will have to face terrible weather, crumbling ruins, and dangerous survivors.
Amber Rose Revah, Sophie Thompson, Trond Fausa Aurvåg, and William Abadie have joined the returning cast for the edge-of-your-seat sequel directed by Ric Roman Waugh. Chris Sparling and Mitchell LaFortune penned the script.
Get ready for action, drama, destruction, and so much more. Greenland 2: Migration opens in theaters on January 9, 2026, from Lionsgate.
