You might think you’re ready for another werewolf movie. However, you haven’t seen anything until you’ve dealt with a sexually transmitted werewolf virus (Yes, you read that correctly). That’s what First Moon is about.
A feral descent into body-horror and religious fanaticism, where faith turns violent, and the line between human and monster dissolves.
It’s a Cult, It’s a Virus, It’s Complicated
Written and directed by Peter McLeod (The Legend of the Five), First Moon drags the classic werewolf myth into the modern, messy age with a seriously cult-y twist.
The movie follows Jessica, played by Lauren Esposito (The Conjuring 2), who wakes up caged, confused, and suddenly the prisoner of a brutal, fanatical group of werewolf-hunting priests. Why? Because they suspect she’s been infected with a sexually transmitted lycanthropy virus. Their mission is simple, if terrifying: either cure her, or send her back to the afterlife trying. Good times!
McLeod offered a deep thought on the film’s theme, stating: “We all agree that werewolves are monsters, but I wanted to delve a bit into the idea of what makes someone monstrous. They’re just damaged.” Sure, Peter, they’re just damaged—but they’re also turning people into massive, furry rage machines.
Real Monsters Need Real Effects
If you miss the days when monsters were made of latex and sweat, you’re in luck. First Moon features nightmarish creature design by the one and only Thomas E. Surprenant. This SFX legend has an Emmy Award under his belt. His resume includes everything from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine to Halloween H20. In other words, the man knows his gore.
Get ready to sink your teeth into First Moon, a supernatural horror flick that is apparently as raw, relentless, and blood-soaked as the genre gets! Produced and distributed by One Tree Entertainment, this Aussie ripper is officially setting its claws into VOD platforms on May 06, 2025.
