Get ready to see one of TV’s most acclaimed actors return to horror! Adam Scott, who absolutely crushed it (and our brains) in the hit series Severance, is officially returning to the horror genre in the new film Hokum. NEON, the powerhouse behind some of the most prestigious genre films, is slated to release Hokum in theaters this May.
So, what’s it about? The film follows a horror writer who visits an Irish inn to scatter his parents’ ashes. However, he is unaware that the property is said to be haunted by a witch.
The Team Behind the Terror
What makes this release even more exciting is the talent behind the camera. Hokum is the latest project from writer-director Damian McCarthy. If that name sounds familiar, it’s because his previous film, Oddity, was a massive, breakout hit. So much so that it even earned a sp “t on”our “Best Horror Movies of”2024” list! Clearly, McCarthy knows how to deliver a truly unsettling cinematic experience, and pairing his unique vision Scott’sott’sott’s phenomenal range is a recipe for a seriously disturbing treat.
A Stellar Cast Joins the Ride
Scott won’t be navigating this new horror landscape alone; an incredible ensemble cast joins him. Previously announced additions Peter Coonan and David Wilmot are now joined by Florence Ordesh (DepartuO’Connellnnellnnell (Game of Thrones), and Michael Patric (Frontier). This movie is stacked with talent!
Powerhouse Producers Guarantee Quality
When you look at the team backing this film, it’s going to be top-tier horror. The producing slate includes genre titans like Roy Lee (who brought us Weapons) and Steven Schneider (the mind behind Insidious). They are joined by Derek Dauchy of Image Nation (Late Night with the Devil) and the Tailored Film team: Ruth Treacy, Julianne Forde, and Mairtín de Barra, alongside Ken Kao and Josh Rosenbaum.
The executive producer list features Ben Ross and Rami Yasin (Late Night With the Devil), alongside Dan Kagan (Longlegs), and Andrew Childs (The Long Walk).
Producer Steven Schneider previously shared his excitement, stating, “With DaMcCarthy’s fresh and unique approach behind the camera and the amazing Adam Scott bringing his talent to the lead role, Hokum is shaping up to be something truly special. Can’t wait for audiences everywhere to experience what we’ve created together.” If the Insidious guy is excited, we know we should be too!
Coming in 2026
If Oddity (now on Hulu) was anything to go by, we can expect Hokum to be a smart, unsettling, and instantly memorable entry into the modern horror canon. Get ready, this must-see film opens in theaters on May 1, 2026, via Neon.
