Prepare yourselves, horror fanatics, because the one and only Julia Ducournau—the visionary French filmmaker who gave us the cannibalistic masterpiece Raw—has officially returned to the genre! The highly anticipated new film, Alpha, premiered explosively at Cannes earlier this week. To celebrate the massive buzz, NEON has decided to bless us all with the very first official teaser trailer!

A Cryptic Plot That Promises Delicious Unsettling Weirdness

While the teaser doesn’t give everything away (and honestly, would we even want it to?), the official synopsis offers a tantalizing, if cryptic, peek into what is guaranteed to be an unsettling premise:

“Alpha, a troubled 13-year-old, lives with her single mom. Their world collapses the day she returns from school with a tattoo on her arm.”

The description goes on to tease that a bloodborne infectious illness has been plaguing the area. Now, her mother is worried that her daughter may have caught it.

Knowing Ducournau, that simple little tattoo is going to be far more than just a piece of ink. We are betting this premise will delve deep into body horror, identity, and the grotesque metamorphosis of adolescence.

Powerhouse Talent Brings the Intensity

To bring this story to life, Ducournau has recruited two phenomenal stars who are guaranteed to deliver the intensity this project demands. Golshifteh Farahani (The Patience Stone) and Tahar Rahim (The Serpent) are both powerhouse actors who will undoubtedly bring incredible depth and psychological intensity to the film.

Producers Say This is Her Most Personal Work Yet!

The excitement pouring out from the teams behind the film is absolutely palpable. FilmNation Entertainment and Charades released a joint statement, practically vibrating with pride:

“Alpha is Julia’s most personal, profound work yet, and we are looking forward to a global audience discovering the story with as much excitement as we did.”

The producers echoed this sentiment, assuring fans that this film is both familiar and totally new for the acclaimed director: “Alpha is a new page in Julia Ducournau’s corpus, consistent with the previous ones and entirely new in its tone. To match an exceptional project, it was necessary to transcend conventions…”

That statement alone confirms Alpha will push boundaries in the brilliant, grotesque ways we expect. At the same time, it also offers something completely fresh and unexpected.

Julia Ducournau proves once again why she is one of the most exciting voices in modern cinema. Get ready, Alpha opens in the theater on March 27!
