Brace yourselves, because Fox just dropped the official trailer for “Fear Factor: House of Fear,” and your worst nightmares are coming true (again!).
This time, they’ve cranked the absurdity way up and somehow convinced Johnny Knoxville of Jackass fame to host the whole chaotic circus. Honestly, is there anyone better to lead a show dedicated to watching people doing insane challenges? We think not.
It’s ‘Fear Factor’ on Steroids (Seriously)
Forget everything you remember about the old days with Joe Rogan. This reboot combines classic gross-out stunts and terrifying challenges with a hefty, messy dose of social strategy. They’re dropping a bunch of strangers into a remote location, forcing them to live together, and then making them face stunts so “mind-blowing” they might actually lose their minds.
The catch? Trust is thinner than the protective film on a week-old serving of rotten meat, and fear itself is a weapon.
Why are these people subjecting themselves to this? A whopping $200,000 grand prize! As one totally-not-exaggerating player puts it in the trailer: “It’s ‘Fear Factor‘ on steroids.” Good luck with the side effects, everyone!
Meet the Class of 2026 (aka the Very Brave/Foolish Contestants)
The fine folks at EW compiled a list of the 14 brave souls who are voluntarily entering this nightmare. It’s an inspiring mix of people who definitely need this money and people whose jobs you’d think would prepare them for this (but probably won’t):
-
Blake (36): High school physics teacher (Maybe he can calculate the trajectory of his lunch?)
-
Chelsea (34): Spelling to Communicate practitioner
-
Damienne (30): Salon owner
-
Danielle (41): Aerospace engineer (She’s used to high pressure, but not necessarily pig guts.)
-
Dida (21): Soccer player
-
Ethan (20): Emergency dispatcher
-
Jayleen (28): Marketing professional
-
Jeni (48): Teacher’s aide
-
Kristen (29): School counselor
-
Lance (31): Flight attendant (They already deal with turbulence and tiny bathrooms—this is a lateral move.)
-
Rob (35): eBike business owner
-
Rodney (59): Retired NYPD detective
-
Tyler (34): Stay-at-home mom (Finally, a break from the kids!)
-
Zach (33): Unemployed coal miner (He’s already faced dark, scary places, but maybe not live cockroaches.)
The original nausua-inducing series ran from 2001 to 2006 and then returned for another season in 2011. The original was hosted by the OG, Joe Rogan. The series returned to MTV in 2017-2018. It appears the show refuses to die, and to be honest, we’re glad it hasn’t.
We look forward to seeing Knoxville in action in “Fear Factor: House of Fear.”
Your greatest fears (and these poor contestants) return with a new, twisted flavor on Wednesday, January 14, at 9 pm on Fox! If you miss the live show, you can stream the misery on Hulu.
