Apple TV just dropped the details on your new obsession! Today, they officially announced “Widow’s Bay,” a 10-episode genre-bending series that sounds like the perfect mix of “I need to hide under my covers” and “I can’t stop laughing.”

Welcome to Widow’s Bay (Don’t Mind the Curse)

The show takes place in a quaint, isolated island town about 40 miles off the New England coast. It’s the kind of place with zero Wi-Fi, spotty cell service, and locals who spend their days whispering about ancient curses.

At the center of it all is Mayor Tom Loftis, played by the incredible Emmy-winner Matthew Rhys (“The Americans”). Tom is… well, he’s a bit of a mess. He’s desperate to revive his dying community and wants the townspeople to respect him. The problem? They think he’s a total coward (and honestly, they aren’t wrong).

Tom’s big dream is to turn the island into a tourist hotspot for the sake of his teenage son’s future. Miraculously, he actually pulls it off! The tourists start pouring in—but that’s when the “miracle” turns into a total nightmare. It turns out those “ludicrous” local legends about a curse weren’t so crazy after all. After decades of peace, something terrifying is waking up.

A Powerhouse Creative Team

If the plot hasn’t sold you yet, the names behind the camera definitely will. The series is the brainchild of Katie Dippold (“Parks and Recreation”), who serves as showrunner. Emmy-winner Hiro Murai (“Atlanta”, “The Bear”) is directing five episodes and executive producing. The directing lineup includes horror royalty Ti West (X, Pearl), along with Sam Donovan and Andrew DeYoung.

The cast is just as stacked, featuring Kate O’Flynn, the legendary Stephen Root, Kingston Rumi Southwick, Kevin Caroll, and Dale Dickey.

Why We’re Hyped

Apple TV has been on a massive winning streak lately (we’re talking 662 award wins and counting!), and “Widow’s Bay” looks to continue that by blending genuine, heart-pounding horror with sharp, character-driven comedy. It’s basically that “prestige TV” vibe we love, but with way more scares and snarky New Englanders.

Mark your calendars: the global debut is set for Wednesday, April 29, 2026. Apple is treating us to a three-episode premiere right out of the gate, with new chapters dropping every Wednesday until the finale on June 17.

You can catch it on the Apple TV app across all your favorite devices—iPhone, Roku, PlayStation, you name it—for $12.99 a month. And if you just snagged a new Apple gadget, don’t forget you probably have three months of the service for free!
