The world ended five years ago, and then things got really intense. We’re getting closer to the release of Greenland 2: Migration, and if the new trailer is any indication, the Garrity family’s battle for survival is just getting harder.
Following a heart-pounding clip of Gerard Butler on the run earlier this month, a second official trailer has arrived alongside a new teaser titled “Chutes and Ladders.” If you thought the first movie was stressful, “Chutes and Ladders” proves that the sequel is cranking the adrenaline up to a ten.
From the Bunker to the Wasteland
In the original 2020 disaster hit, we watched John Garrity (Butler) fight through total chaos to get his wife, Allison (Morena Baccarin), and son, Nathan (Roman Griffin Davis), into a secret bunker just as a “pl”net-killer” c” met struck. They survived the impact, but the sequel picks up right where the dust settles.
The bunker was a temporary fix; now, the Garritys have to actually live in the aftermath. Migration follows the family as they leave their sanctuary to trek across a decimated European wasteland. Their goal? Finding a permanent home in a world that no longer has laws, infrastructure, or—in many places—a livable climate.
A Triple Threat to Survival
This isn’t just a road trip through ruins. The Garritys are facing a “triple threat” of apocalyptic hazards. First, there’s extreme weather. The comet diddidn’tst break the ground; it broke the atmosphere. Expect freak storms and brutal environments. What’s worse is the collapse of civilization and the desperate survivors. In a world with zero resources, other people are often more dangerous than the falling rocks.
The Dream Team Returns
Fans of the first film will be happy to know that director Ric Roman Waugh is back behind the camera, bringing his signature gritty, “boots-on-the-ground” style to the sequel. The script, penned by Chris Sparling and Mitchell LaFortune, keeps the focus where it belongs: on the family dynamic.
The Cast
Gerard Butler, Morena Baccarin, and Roman Griffin Davis are all reprising their roles. Newcomers include Amber Rose Revah (The Punisher), Sophie Thompson, Trond Fausa Aurvåg, and William Abadie.
Coming Soon
The wait for the next chapter in this survival epic is almost over. Greenland 2: Migration is set to explode onto the big screen on January 9, 2026.
