If you’re the type of person who gets a little uneasy in tight spaces, you might want to keep the lights on for this one. Ghost Machine Pictures is kicking off the new year by taking us deep underground with their latest project, Wilderness Tapes: Volume One.
Imagine the bone-chilling claustrophobia of The Descent mixed with the “what on earth is happening” vibes of The Twilight Zone. This isn’t just a jump-scare flick; it’s a dive into a dark, forgotten corner of history.
What’s Hiding in the Dark?
We’ve all heard the stats: nearly a million smartphones and cameras vanish into the wilderness every single year. But have you ever wondered what’s actually on those lost devices?
This new anthology franchise answers that question by showcasing “recovered” footage that was never meant to be seen. In Volume One, we follow a modern-day rockhound who decides to venture into an abandoned Gold Rush-era mine. What starts as a hobbyist’s exploration quickly turns into a nightmare as they stumble upon a catastrophe that history books somehow missed. Hoewever, a big question remains. Is that malevolent force from the 1800s still waiting down there in the dark?
Real Mines, Real Terror
The production wasn’t exactly a walk in the park. To get that authentic, “I can’t breathe” feeling, the crew actually headed into a decrepit, real-life gold mine.
“It’s all about producing big scares on a tiny budget,” explains Ashley Park, co-founder of Ghost Machine Pictures. “Our team lived a real-life wilderness adventure—climbing into these suffocating spaces to make sure the horror felt as real as possible.”
The Creative Team
The film is spearheaded by Emmy Award-winning writer and director Brandon Walker. Bringing the tension to life on screen is a solid cast featuring Thomas Burke (Alone in the After), ELIOT (Dhar Mann), and Nathan Church (Ghosts of Hiroshima).
How to Watch
You won’t have to wait long to feel the squeeze. Wilderness Tapes: Volume One makes its exclusive debut on Found TV this New Year’s Day. A worldwide digital release is scheduled to follow in February 2026.
