It’s that time of year again. As the end of 2025 approaches, you may be wondering what the top horror movies of the year are. We’ve been thinking long and hard about it, and we’ve put together a list. Now, this list is not based on box office results or Rotten Tomatoes scores. This is a list made by a horror fan for horror fans. Here are the TOP 10 HORROR MOVIES OF 2025.

10. Beast of War

Not only is this movie tense as hell, but it also offers up a great story. If you’re a gorehound, this is the movie for you. For those of you who love a good shark movie, this movie is a winner. The practical shark (yes, I said practical) looks absolutely fantastic. The first time it broke the surface of the water, all I could think was “Jaws.” It reminds me so much of Bruce (the shark from Jaws).

The movie earns bonus points for the passion for the project that director Kiah Roache-Turner expressed during our interview. He put his heart into it, and it shows.

The good news is, Beast of War is out on Digital, VOD, and Blu-ray, so there are plenty of ways to watch.

9. Final Destination: Bloodlines

Final Destination: Bloodlines centers on a college student who is suddenly and violently plagued by a recurring, deeply disturbing nightmare. Desperate to break the terrifying cycle closing in on her and her family, she returns to her hometown. Her mission: to seek out the one person who might hold the key to understanding the terrifying forces at play – her grandmother, Iris.

After a decade, the franchise’s return doesn’t disappoint, with nonstop action, more kills than ever, and a great story that brings it full circle. Bloodlines is a must-watch; luckily, it’s streaming on HBO. It’s not all scares and gore. The movie features iconic actor Tony Todd saying goodbye to his fans in his character’s final, moving scene, voiced in his own words. He will be missed.

“I intend to enjoy the time I have left. I suggest you do the same. Life is precious…”

Watch it now on HBO and Hulu.

8. Dangerous Animals

Dangerous Animals is a genre-bending film. Hassie Harrison from “Yellowstone” and Jai Courtney from “Suicide Squad” lead the movie. Courtney plays the role of a shark-obsessed serial killer, and Harrison is his latest victim. Along with the impressive performances of the entire cast, this movie tells a fresh story and is absolutely twisted. Harrison is the final girl we all need.

You can watch Dangerous Animals now on Apple TV, AMC, and Shudder.

6. The Long Walk

This adaptation of Stephen King’s work may very well be the best yet. If its goal was to wreck us completely, well, mission accomplished. The setting is deliberately Spartan. It is a desolate, unending stretch of asphalt flanked by fields and abandoned cars. Here, fifty teenage boys,  having volunteered for this lethal competition, line up to begin “The Walk.” The objective is terrifyingly simple. The last boy standing will claim a massive cash prize and have any wish granted. Unfortunately, this means forty-nine boys must die.

The rules embody cold, efficient cruelty: maintain a minimum speed. Fall below the threshold or stop, and you receive a warning, delivered by the heavily armed military escort (the Scramblers). Accumulate three warnings, and you are immediately executed. This creates a situation as much about physical endurance as about a sustained psychological war against exhaustion, dread, and a ruthless clock.

If you’re looking for a movie that will get you right in the feels, this is it. You can’t help but empathize with the boys and get attached. This is a terrible mistake because in the end, it’s going to break your heart. It’s so emotional and so well done, which is why it’s on this list.

Witness this heart-wrenching film now on Apple TV, Prime Video, or Crunchyroll. Own it on Blu-ray on December 25.

7. Nosferatu

Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu is a gothic romance as much as a horror film, centering on the obsessive connection between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire fixated on her. Contrary to expectations, the film’s true heart lies with Lily-Rose Depp’s Ellen, whose performance is nothing short of brilliant. She is torn between her growing fascination with the vampire and her unwavering love for her husband, Thomas Hutter (Nicholas Hoult), whose desperate struggle to return to his wife is powerfully conveyed.

If you love darkness and a creepy-as-hell ambiance, this film is for you. You can find it on Prime Video.

5. Good Boy

This movie is all about Indy, an adorable dog who moves with his human, Todd, to his dad’s old house. Todd is excited, but Indy immediately gets some bad vibes. He begins seeing ghosts and creepy glimpses of the past. As a sinister force stalks Todd, Indy must step up and fight to save his best friend.

The decision to feature this point of view, from the dog’s perspective, was a brilliant move, making the film appealing not only to genre fans but also to dog owners, who number an estimated 471 million worldwide. Check out this fantastic film on Shudder.

4. Weapons

It’s easy to add Zach Cregger’s Weapons to this list. Between its twisted, fresh story, incredible cast, and significant special effects, it was a shoo-in for the 2025 top 10.

The film shows a classroom full of children suddenly disappearing at night, all on their own. A teacher becomes a suspect, but the truth is supernatural in origin. There are a ton of surprising twists, brutal deaths, and intense tension. It’s simply brilliant. There’s some excellent news, too: it’s getting a prequel that will explore the origin of the character Aunt Gladys.

Weapons can be found on HBO and Prime Video.

3. Frankenstein

Guillermo del Toro’s new take on the iconic story of Frankenstein does not disappoint. This elegant, absolutely stunning film sees the story of Frankenstein split into two parts. The first half is from Victor Frankenstein’s point of view. The second, from the monster. This was a brilliant choice. It allows the audience to see both points of view while revealing their true nature. This supports the idea that Dr. Frankenstein is actually the creature and that the beast, though fearsome, is good, though misunderstood.

Oscar Issac gives an incredible performance, demonstrating obsession and passion. His intensity pulls you in and leaves you on the edge of your seat. Mia Goth’s Elizabeth is enchanting and sweet. As for Jacob Elordi’s performance as the creature, bravo. The way he emotes emotion with barely saying a word is incredible. Watch the film now on Netflix.

2. Bring Her Back

To say that a movie has gotten under my skin is rare these days. I guess I’ve become a bit jaded as a horror fan. But Bring Her Back is a rare exception. It’s been months since I watched it with my jaw on the floor, and still, when I think about the knife scene, I still recoil. There’s only one other film that affects me like that, The Exorcist (the cross scene). Bring Her Back accomplished something that thousands of films couldn’t: it left me scarred for life. And that is freaking amazing!

The A24 film is from the brilliant minds behind the unsettling hit Talk to Me, directors Danny and Michael Philippou. The story introduces us to a brother and sister, two children thrust into the often turbulent and uncertain world of foster care. Things take a truly sinister turn when they meet their new foster mother and Oliver, another child grappling with a profound, tragic loss. From the outset, the atmosphere in their new home is thick with unease.

It becomes quickly apparent that something is deeply, profoundly wrong lurking beneath the surface of their new “safe” haven. What unfolds is chilling to the bone. There’s a scene with the boy chewing on things, and it is now forever burned into my brain (I won’t spoil it), but Jesus, it got under my skin. It’s a rare, perfect film. Watch Bring Her Back on HBO, Prime, and Apple TV.

1. Sinners

This one was easy to add to the list. Sinners, from director Ryan Coogler, has been racking up awards left and right, and rightfully so. The film, starring Michael B. Jordan in dual roles as twins Smoke and Stack, is absolutely killer!

The film plunges us into the Jim Crow era South, where the brothers return to their hometown, dreaming of opening a lively Juke Joint. However, their homecoming is far from welcoming, as an ancient evil lurks, waiting to greet them. Amidst the hustle of preparing for opening night, the twins navigate a tangled web of romantic interests, family drama, and the ever-present threat of the Klan. But when a bloodthirsty vampire bares its fangs and begins turning the townsfolk into creatures of the night, the brothers and their friends are thrown into a brutal, no-holds-barred fight for survival.

Seriously, Sinners is an absolute knockout. It’s soaked in the era’s authentic cultural soul, and it doesn’t flinch from showing the heartbreaking, complex legacy of its dark history. But the scene that completely broke me—the one that still gives me chills—is that moment in the Juke Joint. You know the one. When Canton steps up and belts out that soulful tune, the entire place transforms. The dance floor becomes pure magic, a moment of profound, breathtaking catharsis. It’s impossible to describe without giving it away, but trust me, that single scene is worth the price of admission alone. Breathtaking.

If you’re looking for a brilliant, brutal, and bloody film, this is it. The good news is that you can stream Sinners now on HBO or get it on Blu-ray.
