Class is back in session, but at Split River High, the bell tolls for the dead. The hit supernatural drama “School Spirits” is officially returning for Season 3, and the wait is almost over. You can catch the premiere exclusively on Paramount+ on January 28 at 3 AM ET / 12 AM PT.
The Mystery Deepens: What’s Lurking in the Halls?
This season, the veil between the living and the afterlife is getting dangerously thin. After her harrowing journey to claw her way back to the land of the living, Maddie Nears (Peyton List) isn’t exactly getting a “normal” high school experience. She’s being haunted by terrifying visions and the massive responsibility of protecting both her ghost friends and her living ones.
Meanwhile, Simon is stuck on the other side, becoming totally obsessed with the dark history carved into the school’s walls. The big questions this season are ones we’ve been dying to know: Why is the body count at Split River so high? And what exactly was Mr. Martin’s ominous warning all about? Expect plenty of twists that will make you question everything from the first two seasons.
Fresh Faces & Familiar Ghosts
The core squad is back, led by Peyton List, Kristian Ventura (Simon), and Milo Manheim (Wally). But the halls are getting a bit more crowded this year with some killer new guest stars, including Jennifer Tilly, Ari Dalbert, and Erika Swayze.
Behind the Scenes
Creators Nate and Megan Trinrud are back as showrunners, teaming up once again with executive producer Oliver Goldstick (Pretty Little Liars). With that kind of creative pedigree, you know the drama is going to be high, and the secrets are going to be juicy.
The “School Spirits” Season 2 Recap: Where We Left Off
The Big Body Swap: The biggest shocker? Maddie isn’t actually dead—at least, her body isn’t. We found out that Janet (the ghost who “disappeared”) jumped into Maddie’s body the moment Maddie walked into the fallout shelter. Janet-in-Maddie’s-body then hopped a bus and left town, leaving the “real” Maddie stuck in the afterlife.
The Mr. Martin Betrayal: The friendly mentor act is officially over. We discovered that Mr. Martin has been keeping a secret archive of objects belonging to the ghosts, effectively “tethering” them to the school and studying them like lab rats. Even creepier? It turns out he was responsible for the fire that killed Janet (and himself) back in the ’50s. He’s been the villain in plain sight this whole time.
Simon’s Heartbreak: Poor Simon. After spending the season being the only living person who could see Maddie, he finally saw “Maddie” (actually Janet) driving away in a stolen car. He now thinks Maddie has been faking her death or messing with his head this whole time. Their connection is completely severed heading into Season 3.
The Search for Janet: While the ghosts are dealing with the fallout from Mr. Martin’s secret lab, the living kids (Nicole and Xavier) are still trying to determine where Maddie’s body went. Xavier ended the season in bad shape after an encounter with “Janet-Maddie,” leaving his fate up in the air.
Tune in for the new season on January 28!
