Remember when you thought your SATs and fitting in were the scariest things about high school? For Sloane and her classmates, the “final exam” became a literal fight to survive.
A brand-new trailer just dropped for This Is Not a Test, the upcoming apocalyptic horror flick hitting theaters this February. It’s based on the New York Times bestseller by Courtney Summers, but don’t expect your typical “aim for the head” zombie movie. This is an emotional gut-punch that’ll leave you more stressed than a surprise pop quiz.
The Plot: The Worst Lockdown Ever
When a violent apocalypse tears through their town, a group of students does the only logical thing: they barricade themselves inside their high school. But while the “monsters” (don’t call ’em zombies!) are scratching at the front doors, the real danger is the social hierarchy falling apart in the hallways.
Our protagonist, Sloane (Olivia Holt), has spent most of her life not really caring if she makes it to tomorrow. But watching her classmates scramble, cry, and fight like hell just for one more breath? That’s a wake-up call. Suddenly, the girl who didn’t want to be here is the one who has to lead them before the gym doors give way.
The Cast & Crew
Holt (Cruel Summer) brings the grit as Sloane. She’s joined by Froy Gutierrez (Teen Wolf), Corteon Moore (fresh off his survival stint in FROM), and Luke MacFarlane (Bros).
Why It’s Not Your Average Slasher
If you’ve read the book, you know this story is widely known as a “walking simulator with a pulse.” It’s a deep character study wrapped in a visceral horror movie. It’s about what happens when the people you’re trapped with are just as scary as the things outside.
A Must See
Get ready to go back to high school for a terrifying experience. This is Not a Test opens in theaters on February 20, 2026, from IFC and Shudder.
