She’s alive! The first full trailer for Maggie Gyllenhaal’s highly anticipated film, The Bride, has officially dropped, and it’s a punk-rock, 1930s fever dream that looks absolutely bonkers. Starring Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale, this isn’t your grandma’s monster movie—it’s a neon-soaked, high-energy reimagining that has “cult classic” written all over it.

 A Radical Awakening

The film is set in the grit of 1930s Chicago. A lonely Frankenstein’s monster (Bale) seeks out the groundbreaking Dr. Euphronius (Annette Bening) to create a partner for him. They reanimate a murdered young woman (Buckley), but the “Bride” that wakes up isn’t some submissive companion.

Instead, she’s a force of nature. As she finds her voice—literally—she sparks a passionate romance with the monster and goes on a Bonnie and Clyde-style rampage. This ignites a radical social movement that has the police and the public in a frenzy.

A Stacked Cast

Gyllenhaal has assembled a powerhouse ensemble for her second directorial effort. Jessie Buckley, Christian Bale, Penélope Cruz, Annette Bening, Peter Sarsgaard, and even Maggie’s brother Jake Gyllenhaal (playing a movie star!) round out the cast.

The Buzz is Real

Following her acclaimed debut with The Lost Daughter, Maggie Gyllenhaal is swinging for the fences here. With an R rating (for violence, nudity, and language) and a soundtrack featuring Florence + The Machine, the film is being described as a “visceral, punk-rock epic.” It’s also part of a mToro”sonster-renaissance,” including films like Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein.

The Bride takes over theaters and IMAX on March 6, 2026, from Warner Bros. Be sure to get our tickets early for this one.
