After absolutely killing it at the box office this past holiday season, the highly anticipated reboot of the ultimate “naughty list” slasher, Silent Night, Deadly Night, is officially coming home. If you missed the chaos in theaters, get ready—Director Mike P. Nelson (Wrong Turn) has delivered a fresh, intense, and utterly uncompromising vision of the 1984 classic that started it all.
Can Love Stop the Slaughter?
This isn’t just a mindless retread. Nelson’s reboot dives deep into the fractured psyche of Billy, the man who witnessed his parents’ brutal murder on Christmas Eve as a child. Now grown up, Billy maintains his twisted “tradition” of dressing as Santa to deliver a spree of holiday violence.
However, this version adds a compelling psychological twist: Billy crosses paths with Pamela, a young woman who sees the man behind the mask. She challenges him to confront his deep-seated trauma, forcing Billy to choose between his murderous legacy and a chance at redemption. The big question: Can love truly survive a wake of holiday carnage?
The Cast of Chaos
The film is anchored by a fantastic duo that horror fans will recognize immediately. Rohan Campbell, who faced off against Michael Myers in Halloween Ends, takes on the heavy mantle of the killer Santa with a performance that is both terrifying and tragic. Happy Death Day alum Ruby Modine plays Pamela, the emotional heart of the film, who tries to pull Billy back from the brink.
Embracing an Infamous Legacy
You can’t talk about Silent Night, Deadly Night without mentioning the absolute scandal the original 1984 film caused. Back then, the mere image of a killer Santa led to nationwide protests by outraged parents, eventually forcing the movie out of theaters. But you can watch it now on Crunchyroll, Prime, Pluto TV, and Plex.
Ironically, that controversy only fueled its cult status. Decades later, Mike P. Nelson is leaning into that “taboo” energy. This reboot honors the original’s grit while ramping up the intensity for a modern audience. And yes, for those who heard the rumors—the viral sequence featuring Santa taking out a nest of Nazis is every bit as brutal as advertised (watch it here)!
Release Date & Home Media Details
Following its successful theatrical run in late 2025, the wait for the physical and digital release is almost over. The film will be available on Digital and VOD on January 27, 2026. You can get your copy on Blu-ray or 4K just in time for Valentine’s Day, on February 10, 2026.
The home release is expected to include a “Director’s Unrated Cut,” featuring extended gore sequences and behind-the-scenes looks at recreating the infamous Santa suit.
