Get ready to head back to the jungle, because the wildest mashup of “Vietnam War meets prehistoric monsters” is officially coming back for seconds. Variety has confirmed that a Primitive War sequel is in the works, and things are about to get a whole lot bloodier.
Luke Sparke Returns to the Director’s Chair
The man behind the first film, Luke Sparke, is back to write, direct, and produce the sequel through Sparke Films. If you loved the look of the first one, you’re in good hands—Sparke is once again wearing multiple hats, handling everything from the script to the VFX supervision.
The franchise is based on the fan-favorite book series by Ethan Pettus, and the team is leaning hard into the source material’s grit.
From “Discovery” to “Escalation”
If the first movie was about finding out that dinosaurs existed in the middle of a war zone, the sequel is about what happens when that secret gets out of control.
“The first film was about discovery,” Sparke said. “This is about escalation—what happens when control is lost, when nature adapts faster than military doctrine and when the war itself becomes secondary to what’s been unleashed.”
A Cold War Nightmare
Set in the aftermath of the original film, Primitive War 2 follows a brand-new U.S. platoon sent into a “valley of death” that’s becoming more unstable by the second. Here’s what they’re walking into: Expect grounded military realism mixed with pure survival horror. It’s not just soldiers vs. dinos; rival predators are fighting for dominance. The Cold War is in full swing, and there’s more happening behind the scenes than just a simple rescue mission.
When Can We See It?
The film is currently in late development, with Sparke’s Queensland-based crew and the producing team at Let It Be Entertainment (Carmel and Geoff Imrie) gearing up for production.
We’ve already got the first official poster, and the plan is to unleash the whole movie in theaters in 2027. It’s being billed as a darker, more intense war epic that pushes the “survival horror” vibe to the absolute limit. If you haven’t seen the first film, do so now.
