The Main Man has officially entered the building! James Gunn just sent the internet into a total frenzy by dropping the first look at Jason Momoa as the intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo in the upcoming film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
In a hype-inducing video posted to Instagram on Friday, we see Momoa stepping out of his trailer, flashing some sharp fangs, and simply saying, “Finally,” before heading to set. The clip then cuts to a stunning official shot of Momoa in full Lobo gear—and let’s say, he looks like he was born for this.
A Match Made in Comic Book Heaven
Momoa has been vocal about his love for Lobo for years. Back in 2024, when his casting was first rumored, he called it the “perfect role.”
“He was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo,” Momoa previously said. “I mean, listen. If they call and ask me to play him, it’s a f*** yeah.”
Looks like James Gunn made that call, and the DC Universe is never going to be the same.
What We Know About Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
This isn’t your typical bright and sunny superhero flick. Based on the masterpiece by Tom King and Bilquis Evely, this movie is the second big theatrical release in the new DCU Chapter 1, following 2025’s Superman.
Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) stars alongside Mamoa in the space-faring epic that’s much grittier than what we’ve seen from Supergirl in the past\
Who is Lobo? (The “Main Man” 101)
If you aren’t a comic book nerd, you might be wondering why everyone is losing their minds. Here’s a quick crash course on the “Last Czarnian”.
Created in 1983 by Keith Giffen and Roger Slifer, Lobo started as a villain but evolved into a fan-favorite anti-hero. He’s also the last of his kind. Why? Because he literally killed everyone else on his home planet for a high school science project. He gave himself an ‘A’.
He’s got Superman-level strength, an insane healing factor (he can grow back from a single drop of blood), and he’s an expert tracker. He’s a cigar-chomping, heavy-metal-loving space biker who rides a “Space Hog” and has a weird soft spot for space dolphins.
Created as a parody of “gritty” 90s heroes like Wolverine and Punisher, Lobo became so cool that fans came to love him for real. Seeing Momoa bring that chaotic energy to the screen alongside Milly Alcock’s Supergirl is going to be pure cinema.
Get ready to see Momoa in action as Lobo in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which hits theaters June 26.
