Things are about to get loud, scaly, and weirdly meta. The brand-new Anaconda movie just dropped on digital today, and it looks like the fever dream we didn’t know we needed.
Remake or Die Trying
What happens when you combine a midlife crisis with a ’90s obsession? You get Doug and Griff (Jack Black and Paul Rudd). These two besties are on a mission to remake their favorite movie of all time: the 1997 masterpiece Anaconda.
The problem? While they’re busy fumbling with camera angles and low-budget props, a very real, ravenous giant snake decides to audition for the lead role. It turns out “getting the shot” is a lot harder when the local wildlife is trying to digest your cinematographer.
The Dream Team
Behind the camera is Tom Gormican, the guy who gave us the Nicolas Cage-fest The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. He’s bringing that same “is this a movie or a cry for help?” energy to the jungle.
The cast list is basically a VIP lounge of talent: Thandiwe Newton, Steve Zahn (reunited with Jack Black? Yes, please), Selton Mello, Ione Skye, and Daniela Melchior.
Respect the Elders (The 1997 OG)
For those too young to remember the era of frosted tips: the original Anaconda was a 1997 banger starring Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, and Jon Voight (who spent the whole movie looking like he’d just smelled a rotten egg). It was such a hit that it spawned three sequels and a crossover with Lake Placid because, apparently, one giant predator wasn’t enough.
Get ready for a wild adventure, Anaconda is out now on Digital! If you want to see where the trauma started, the original is currently streaming on Prime Video and Netflix.
